So you want to build a web site? I know I did! And I know even more people are going to want to build their own as well.

This is great news for those of us who like to build and customize web sites. It also can be very bad news for those of us who just like to work with HTML and graphic design software. Here are a few quick tips to keep in mind if you want to design your own web site:

1. Consider what you want to accomplish. Don’t just build a site just for the sake of doing it. If you are just building a site for the sake of having something to do, you will probably have trouble keeping your site updated and fresh. Your site will be stale after a while, or you will have trouble marketing your site. So think more in depth about what you want to accomplish with your site.

2. Do some research first. You should know what kind of site you want before you start building it. There are some great templates on the internet that come complete with detailed instructions, instructions in Chinese, Spanish, and even video tutorials. These templates are called WYSIWYG web site builders. So called because they use a paint like interface. WYSIWYG stands for ‘what you see is what you get’.

3. Make sure that you are comfortable with the technology you are using. You should be comfortable with the basic concepts of HTML and CSS before you start using the web site builder software. If you are a beginner you will need to know these concepts to keep you grounded. Don’t let yourself get frustrated. Stay focused on your goal and your goals should be to build a site that you want to own.

These tips should help you build a site that is professional and pleasing to the eye. Don’t let yourself get bogged down by thinking about what you don’t want. Keep your goals focused and focus on the things you do want. It will help your site get seen faster. I promise!
